CRAZY !! 4 Minute Exposure on a sunny day !
Crazy 4 minute exposure, in a single frame ! Following my recent visit to Bath, in South West England last week, I decided to shoot something a little different. I have been using a rather special filter with a variable ND, and Polariser has been built into a single attachment. the filter does not exhibit any colour hue, it is true in its colour rendition, which is the first I have found, see the link below for details. So the aim was to take a very long exposure in the middle of the day. In the video I talk you through how this was done and show you the results of what is possible during processing, I hope you enjoy it :-)

      Thanks for the question, three reasons why this is a useful technique; firstly if you do not have your ND filter on you, and secondly you can end up with blurred or drawn-out lights or lines with a long exposure, and lastly you can extend the exposure time to an equivalent longer exposure time, this shot was equal to about 3 mins. Hi Alan, there is no question the R5 is a much more capable camera than the 5D4, but that is not to say that the 5D4 is not a good camera it is. The move to an R5 takes you from DSLR to Mirrorless, which is quite a step forward in terms of capabilities and performance, in addition the R5 sensor is one of the best sensors Canon has ever made, so far more dynamic range, less noise and much better auto-focus. Canon is about to release the R52 (this month), so deals on R5's should be good. Kind regards Jamie 😀

    Another Great video.May I ask if you had to change your DNG file to a tiff before going into Silver Effects. If so how did you do this?

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin 26 дней назад

      Thank you for the comment. With regard to the DNG/TIFF question, when you export a DNG in Lightroom Classic to a plug-in, such as Silver Efex Pro, it automatically converts the image to a TIFF, therefore when it is returned to Lightroom it is rendered as a new image (There are setting is Silver Efex to allow you to change this if necessary) 😀

    Amazing edit. You really do demonstrate what is possible if you approach the edit the right way.

    At the risk of sounding critical, it looks like the light source is behind the buildings. Did you cover this and I missed it? I always learn so much from your tutorials. I look forward to your reply. Thanks.

      no worries about being critical, it helps me learn and consider different viewpoints. Getting the light direction in an edit is really important to maintain believability of the image, if the direction is not right, it can be off-putting to the viewer, your observation are fair 😀

    When you're using the transform tool to line up or level, how do you determine what to put your guidelines on?

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin 27 дней назад

      I try to look for objects that you know to be vertical or horizontal, such as the tower in this case, and you need at least two sources, so best to selected one from each side of the image 😀

    There was a point in the video that I thought it was better before B&W Jamie, But the end result was amazing as usual with the jump to Silver effects pro. Nicely Done Much respect.

      Hi Dale, quite often when processing a planned black-and-white output, I often reach a colour point just before transferring to B&W that I think wow, perhaps I should just stop now, but then I open SEP and boom! there s a stunning B&W just waiting to be released 😀

    With multi-minute exposures you can go to reasonably busy touristy places and get people-free shots if you are lucky.

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin 29 дней назад

      It can be true magic if the exposure is long enough. Of course, you can always use the stacking approach as well, but you need many photos to really make it work ! 😀

    I have lived in North Wiltshire for almost fifty years and have never seen the weir from that angle. Makes me want to pick up the camera get in the car and make a rubbish copy of that great picture.

    Great job Jamie, as usual. As I have the same body (R5) and the same Lens (RF 14-35) I first proceed with DXO Pure Raw 4 to get rid off distortion, chromatic issues and noise (does a better job than Lightroom). It let me with a clean image to start, then I take care of the geometry issues. Please keep doing vidéo live this. 👍

      Hey Stephen, the R5 and 14-35mm combo is a real jewel, I changed back to Canon after being with Sony for 6 years, selling my A7R4 for the R5, people thought I was mad, but I just love the ergonomics of the Canon cameras, the menus make sense and the colour science is king. I must admit the A7R4 has a better sensor over the canon, and no just because it was 61MP, it did have slightly better dynamic range, but all cameras are so good these days, we are all very lucky people. I am looking forward to seeing how the R5 Mk2 performs, as I normally have a second camera, so do I go R5mk2 or R6mk2 and save some money? we shall see :-)
